Our top 5 of the latest design news

2020 may not have been the most successful year so far. What we can rely on, despite all the instability, are the new designs from our favorite labels. Whether a functional futon bed, a geometric side table or a smart speaker that only listens when it really should – we used the free time to find the innovations in the design industry.

Functionality down to the last detail: The ZIGGY futon bed from Karup Design

Karup Design lives the idea of Japanese minimalism like no other: the latest model of stylish futon beds combines clear lines with a love for modern design and uncompromising functionality. The softly curved bed frame is made of solid pine wood and coated with a water-based varnish. Thanks to the open storage compartments, the frame integrates itself into the room as if by itself. The wide frame surface replaces the bedside table and offers barely visible storage space in smaller apartments or houses.

Geometric construction: The Sentrum side table by Woud

The catchy design of the Sentrum side table deliberately avoids unnecessary elements and details. What remains is a strong basis – based on the principle of simplicity. The focus of the construction is a curved S-shape, which provides functional storage space on both sides. The design comes from the German design studio Schmahl + Schnippering, which is known for its special eye for decisive details and soft shapes. In their designs for the Danish label Woud, the duo processes its deep conviction that design is part of our culture.

Order and structure in the home office: The 2×2 organizer from Ferm Living

We know what an incredible privilege it is to be able to do our jobs from home. Nevertheless, being productive in the home office can sometimes be a challenge. Disorder and lack of structures reduce our ability to be creative and concentrate. What helps us is a tidy and well-structured environment with clear lines and simple shapes. The stylish 2×2 organizer by Jamie Wolfond for Ferm Living fulfills all our wishes: The two stackable compartments offer enough storage space to sort all documents – and make room for new ideas.

More privacy and first-class sound: The Pure DisovR Smart Speaker

Another design element for our home office – the Pure DiscovR Smart Speaker. It is not just a stylish design element, but also a technical all-rounder. With the Music Discovery function, new songs can be added to your own playlist at the push of a button and played back using the down-firing subwoofer. Unlike its predecessors, the smart speaker should only listen as long as it should: The integrated mic drop function completely separates the microphones inside the smart speaker, thus ensuring sufficient privacy.
